WORKING WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES TO CREATE LIFE-SAVING BUNDLES FOR MOTHERS & NEWBORNS

Meet Shefali

Shefali lives in a rural village in South Asia. She is pregnant with her first child, but doesn’t have access to basic items that can help her care for herself and her new baby during its first year of life. She also doesn’t know about simple, life-saving practices that she can perform at home to keep herself and her baby healthy.

Sadly, she can’t afford to change her situation.

Shefali is not alone.

80% of infant and maternal deaths are completely preventable through appropriate care and education. However, issues of affordability, access, and education prevent mothers and infants from getting the basic care they deserve.

  • Barakat Bundle works with local communities to create life-saving care and education bundles for mothers and newborns.

    Barakat means blessing.
Babies are a blessing to their families, Barakat Bundles are a blessing for their families.

Each Barakat Bundle Includes:

Giving Cradle

Safe-sleep bamboo rocking cradle designed by health experts.

Medical Items

Highlights from Families

During our first pilot trip a new mother named Rekha received a Barakat Bundle on the occasion of her daughter Kajal’s birth. Her health worker taught her how to use the many different items inside the bundle. When we visited her a month later to check-in and see how she was doing she told us that her daughter Kajal had not seemed well. Rekha had used the thermometer in her Barakat Bundle, heard the loud beeps, which indicated a fever, and knew that Kajal needed to go to the health center. The doctor there said Kajal had pneumonia and gave medicine for her. Rekha was happy to say that Kajal is now healthy.
