On Our Way To India!

Flights booked? Check.

Prototypes packed? Check.

Full itinerary prepared? Check.

After weeks of preparation, we’re excited say that we’re en route to India! Equipped with a full itinerary that includes meetings with government officials, community leaders, and mothers on the ground, all thanks to the Public Health Foundation of India, we’re ready to dive headfirst into this amazing country, observe, learn, and build a home where Barakat Bundle can serve and flourish. As we sit in the terminal at Heathrow awaiting our connecting flight, we have a few thoughts running though our minds and that we thought we’d share:

This Was a Team Effort

While only Karima and Mitul are going to India, the entire team worked day in and day out to help put everything together. Long hours, late meetings, taking care of last minute emergencies, we realize that we’re backed by a strong group of women who work full-time jobs while pouring their efforts into Barakat Bundle. So thank you to Amanda, Jyoti, and Nayab. Be sure to catch them at the Women in MassChallenge showcase on Wednesday, September 9 at 6pm!

It’s Not About Us

The purpose of this trip is to really understand what it is that mothers want and need. Together with our design team, we will be conducting focus groups to assess proposed bundle items, in-depth interviews to evaluate our proposed prototypes, and design workshops to continue to improve on our existing version of Barakat Bundle.

This trip will demonstrate what it really means to take a human centered design approach in order to build an effective and relevant prototype. We’re excited but also deeply aware that there is much to learn.

It Takes A Village

From encouraging words, unlimited advice, and generous donations, so much of why we’re here is because you guys trusted us to move forward with this endeavor. We’re passionate about what we’re doing and it helps to know that there are people out there who believe in us. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, thank you to all our mentors and friends.

We must hurry to catch our flight. In the meantime, stay tuned for more updates from India!

Jetting off,

Karima Ladhani & Mitul Daiyan
